Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the vegetable oil, warm water, and vinegar. Mix until the dough begins to come together.
  2. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Wrap it in plastic wrap and let it rest for at least 30 minutes at room temperature.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, raisins, and nuts (if using). Toss the mixture until the apples are evenly coated. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). On a clean, lightly floured tablecloth or parchment paper, roll out the dough as thinly as possible, aiming for a large rectangle. It should be almost transparent.
  5. Brush the rolled-out dough with melted butter and sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the surface.
  6. Spread the apple filling along one edge of the dough, leaving a border all around. Carefully lift the edge of the cloth, rolling the strudel tightly away from you. Tuck in the ends to seal the filling inside.
  7. Place the rolled strudel seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the top with more melted butter. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove the strudel from the oven and let it cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar before slicing. Serve warm for the best experience.
