A hearty, comforting dish that originated in European cuisine, particularly in Germany, where sausage and potatoes are staple ingredients.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound of sausage, sliced into 1/2-inch thick rounds
2 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 cup of grated cheddar cheese
1/2 cup of grated mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon of salt
1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
1/4 teaspoon of paprika
2 tablespoons of olive oil
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
In a large bowl, combine the sliced potatoes and chopped onion. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Toss to coat the potatoes and onion evenly.
In a separate bowl, mix the grated cheddar and mozzarella cheese.
In a large skillet, cook the sliced sausage over medium-high heat until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the cooked sausage from the skillet and set aside.
In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, arrange a layer of potatoes, followed by a layer of cooked sausage, and then a sprinkle of cheese. Repeat this process until all the ingredients are used, ending with a layer of cheese on top.
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender.
Remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
