Cream Cheese Frosting is a beloved classic that elevates any dessert it graces. This luscious and creamy frosting is not only versatile but also incredibly easy to make. With its perfect balance of sweet and tangy flavors, it pairs beautifully with a variety of baked goods, from cakes to cookies and even cupcakes.
Ingredients
Scale:
8 oz (226 g) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened
2 tsp vanilla extract
4 cups (480 g) powdered sugar
1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl or stand mixer, combine the softened cream cheese and butter. Beat them together on medium speed until the mixture is smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
Add the vanilla extract and salt to the cream cheese mixture. Mix until fully incorporated.
Gradually add the powdered sugar to the bowl, 1 cup at a time, mixing on low speed to prevent a sugar cloud. After each addition, increase the mixing speed to medium until the sugar is fully integrated.
Once all the powdered sugar is added, beat the frosting on medium-high speed for an additional 2 minutes.
Check the consistency of your frosting. If it’s too thick, you can add a tablespoon of milk to reach your desired spreadable texture. If it’s too thin, add a little more powdered sugar until thickened.
Once the frosting is at your preferred consistency, use it immediately to frost your cakes, cookies, or cupcakes. You can also store it in the refrigerator for up to a week in an airtight container.
