A classic American comfort food dish consisting of tender chipped beef in a rich, creamy sauce, served over toasted bread.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 (12 oz) jar of chipped beef
2 tablespoons of butter
2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
1 cup of milk
1/2 cup of heavy cream
1 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
4 slices of bread (white or whole wheat)
Optional: chopped parsley or chives for garnish
Instructions
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk to combine, cooking for 1-2 minutes or until the mixture forms a smooth, light brown paste.
Slowly pour in the milk and heavy cream, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes or until it thickens, stirring occasionally.
Add the chipped beef, salt, and pepper to the saucepan, stirring to combine. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5-7 minutes or until the beef is heated through and the sauce has reached the desired consistency.
Meanwhile, toast the bread until it's lightly browned and crispy. You can use a toaster or broiler to toast the bread, depending on your preference.
To assemble the dish, place a slice of toasted bread on a plate or serving dish. Spoon the creamed chipped beef over the bread, making sure to cover the entire surface.
Garnish with chopped parsley or chives, if desired, and serve immediately.
