Crockpot Ham, Green Beans, and Potatoes is a dish that embodies comfort and nostalgia in every bite. This meal not only brings together hearty ingredients but also allows for a convenient cooking method that fits easily into a busy schedule.
Ingredients
Scale:
2 pounds of ham (pre-cooked, diced into cubes, preferably a bone-in ham for added flavor)
1 pound of fresh green beans (trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces)
4 large potatoes (peeled and diced into cubes, Russet or Yukon Gold varieties work best)
1 medium onion (chopped, yellow onions add a nice sweetness)
3 cloves of garlic (minced)
2 cups of low-sodium chicken broth (homemade or store-bought)
1 teaspoon of black pepper (freshly ground for better flavor)
1 teaspoon of dried thyme (or use fresh thyme for a more vibrant taste)
1 teaspoon of salt (to taste)
1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce (adds a depth of flavor)
Instructions
Prepare the ingredients: Begin by washing and peeling the potatoes, then diced them into 1-inch cubes. Trim the green beans by snapping off the ends, and then chop the onion and garlic.
Sauté the onion and garlic: In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
Add ingredients to the crockpot: In your crockpot, combine the diced ham, sautéed onion and garlic, potatoes, and green beans. Stir gently to mix the ingredients.
Season the dish: Pour in the chicken broth, add Worcestershire sauce, and sprinkle in the black pepper, thyme, and salt. Stir everything well.
Cook: Cover the crockpot and set it on low heat for 6-8 hours or high heat for 4-5 hours. The dish is done when the potatoes are tender.
Serve and enjoy: Once cooked, give the dish a gentle stir and taste for seasoning. Serve warm.
