A hearty comfort food dish beloved for its rich flavors and satisfying textures, typically served over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 cups beef broth (low-sodium)
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional)
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon dried thyme
Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles for serving
Instructions
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Use a spatula to break the meat apart as it cooks. Sauté until it’s browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
Stir in the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the onion is translucent and fragrant.
Sprinkle salt and pepper over the beef mixture. Adjust according to your taste preferences.
In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and about 1/2 cup of the beef broth until smooth. Gradually add this mixture to the skillet while stirring. Add the remaining beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and thyme.
Increase the heat to medium-high until the mixture begins to bubble, then reduce to low. Let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the gravy thickens.
Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve the Ground Beef and Gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
