Hamburger Potato Casserole

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until it's browned, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.
  3. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent.
  4. Stir in the frozen peas and carrots, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, and milk. Mix well to combine.
  6. In a 9x13 inch baking dish, create a layer of the ground beef mixture. Top with a layer of the potato mixture, followed by a layer of the shredded cheese.
  7. Repeat the layers two more times, ending with a layer of cheese on top.
  8. Dot the top of the casserole with the butter.
  9. Bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is hot and bubbly.
