This Homemade Sloppy Joes Recipe brings the classic American comfort food to life, making it the perfect meal for busy weeknights or family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound ground beef (or turkey for a lighter option)
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup bell peppers, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon mustard
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
4 hamburger buns
Pickles or coleslaw for topping
Instructions
In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add 1 pound of ground beef and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned (about 5-7 minutes).
Stir in the chopped onion, bell peppers, and minced garlic. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are softened.
In a separate bowl, mix together the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, mustard, smoked paprika, and season with salt and pepper.
Pour the sauce over the cooked meat and vegetable mixture in the skillet. Stir well to coat all the ingredients evenly. Lower the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and toast the hamburger buns for 5-7 minutes until lightly crisped.
Spoon the sloppy joe mixture generously onto the toasted buns and top with pickles or coleslaw if desired.
