With layers of tender ground beef, creamy potatoes, and a gooey cheese topping, it embodies the kind of rustic charm that makes it a family favorite.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 lb ground beef
4 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced thinly
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
1 cup milk
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp paprika
1 cup breadcrumbs (optional)
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large skillet, over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease.
Stir in the chopped onion, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.
In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup and milk. Whisk until smooth.
In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, half of the cooked beef mixture, half of the sauce mixture, and half of the cheese. Repeat the layers ending with cheese.
Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, until the top is golden and bubbly.
Allow the casserole to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
