Southern Smothered Pork Chops is more than just a meal; it's a celebration of love, comfort, and tradition in Southern cuisine. This dish brings together juicy, tender bone-in pork chops with a rich, creamy gravy that envelopes them in flavor, making every bite a delightful experience.
Ingredients
Scale:
4 bone-in pork chops (about 1 inch thick)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon Southern-style pork chop seasoning (optional)
1 cup chicken broth (preferably low-sodium)
1 cup heavy cream
1 medium onion (sliced thinly)
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
Pat the pork chops dry with paper towels. Season both sides with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Sear the pork chops for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Transfer to a plate and cover loosely with aluminum foil.
In the same skillet, add sliced onions and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until softened and slightly caramelized.
Sprinkle flour over the sautéed onions, stirring well. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, then gradually whisk in chicken broth until thickened, about 3-5 minutes.
Lower heat and stir in heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for another 3-4 minutes, adjusting seasoning if needed.
Return pork chops to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Let simmer for about 5 minutes.
Serve hot, drizzled with gravy, and pair with Southern sides like collard greens or cornbread.
