The combination of flavors and textures creates a savory sandwich that is not only filling but also brings a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of classic diner food.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 pound ground beef (80/20 for optimal juiciness)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
4 slices of Texas toast (thick-cut for that perfect crunch)
4 slices American cheese (or your favorite cheese for melting)
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
4 tablespoons butter, softened
Instructions
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty, about ¾ inch thick.
Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the patties to the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on one side, flipping and cooking for an additional 3-4 minutes.
Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook for 5-7 minutes until caramelized.
Spread butter on one side of each slice of Texas toast. On the unbuttered side, place a slice of cheese, followed by a beef patty, sautéed onions, and another slice of cheese. Top with another slice of Texas toast, buttered side up.
Wipe the skillet clean and return it to the heat. Place the assembled sandwich in the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side.
Remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it cool for a minute. Cut in half diagonally and serve immediately.
