A gourmet twist on the classic grilled cheese sandwich, featuring artisan bread and creamy cheese combinations for a satisfying and comforting meal.
Ingredients
Scale:
4 slices of sourdough or brioche (substitute with gluten-free bread if necessary)
1/2 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
2 tablespoons butter, softened
Thinly sliced tomatoes (optional)
Crispy bacon strips (optional)
Caramelized onions (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Preheat a skillet over medium-low heat.
Butter one side of each bread slice generously.
Assemble the sandwich by layering half the Gruyère and cheddar cheese on the unbuttered side of a bread slice. Add optional toppings like tomatoes or bacon if desired, followed by the remaining cheese. Top with another slice of bread, buttered side facing out.
Place the sandwich in the preheated skillet, covering it with a lid to trap the heat. Cook for approximately 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is thoroughly melted.
Season with salt and pepper to taste and remove from the skillet.
Allow the sandwich to cool for a minute before slicing.
