A decadent dessert that has been a staple in many households for generations. This rich, moist cake is a classic example of a traditional dessert that never goes out of style.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 box of chocolate cake mix (15.25 oz)
1 cup of whole milk, at room temperature
2 large eggs, at room temperature
1/2 cup of vegetable oil
2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup of chopped walnuts (optional)
Confectioners' sugar, for dusting
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease two 9-inch (23cm) round cake pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, milk, eggs, and vegetable oil. Mix the ingredients on low speed until they are well combined, then increase the speed to medium and beat for 2 minutes.
Stir in the vanilla extract and semi-sweet chocolate chips. If using walnuts, fold them into the batter at this stage.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
Bake the cakes for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of each cake comes out clean.
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once the cakes are completely cool, you can frost and decorate them as desired. A classic combination is to use a rich, creamy chocolate frosting and top the cake with chopped nuts or chocolate shavings.
