Tom Thumb Bars are a delightful treat that brings together the best of cookie bars and dessert bars into a single, mouthwatering package. Named for their small, thumb-sized squares, these buttery cookie bars are an iconic dessert that balances rich flavors with a chewy texture.
Ingredients
Scale:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined.
Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and serve.
