Imagine a dish that captures the essence of a classic cheeseburger, but in a hearty, comforting pie form. This Impossible Cheeseburger Pie is a delightful fusion of flavors that brings together the beloved taste of American cuisine in a simple one-dish meal.
Ingredients
Scale:
1 lb Impossible meat (or any plant-based ground meat substitute)
1 cup diced onion
1 cup diced bell pepper (any color)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or a plant-based cheese alternative)
1 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour for gluten-free options)
1/3 cup cold butter, cut into cubes (or vegan butter)
1/4 teaspoon salt
3-4 tablespoons cold water
2 large eggs
1 cup milk (or plant-based milk for dairy-free options)
1/2 cup shredded cheese (optional, for extra cheesiness)
Instructions
In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the cold butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough holds together. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the diced onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened. Add the Impossible meat, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and pepper. Cook until the meat is browned and heated through, about 7-10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in shredded cheddar cheese.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a circle about 1/8 inch thick. Transfer it to a pie dish, trimming the excess dough hanging over the edges. Prick the bottom with a fork to prevent bubbling.
Spoon the cooked filling into the pie crust evenly, spreading it out with a spatula.
In a bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined. Pour this mixture over the filling. If desired, sprinkle additional shredded cheese on top.
Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is set and golden brown. The filling should be bubbly.
Allow the pie to cool for about 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy your delicious Impossible Cheeseburger Pie!
