A classic American comfort food that perfectly complements fried chicken, barbecue, and picnics.
Ingredients
Scale:
8 cups of green cabbage, finely shredded (about 1 medium head)
1 cup of carrots, shredded (about 2 medium carrots)
½ cup of red cabbage, finely shredded (optional for color)
1 cup of mayonnaise
¼ cup of buttermilk
2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons of granulated sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
½ teaspoon of black pepper
1 teaspoon of celery seed
Instructions
Prepare the Vegetables: Start by finely shredding the green cabbage, carrots, and red cabbage (if using). A sharp knife or box grater works well, but for a quicker prep, consider using a food processor with the shredding attachment.
Mix the Dressing: In a large bowl, combine the mayonnaise, buttermilk, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, black pepper, and celery seed. Whisk these ingredients together until the dressing is smooth and creamy.
Combine Everything: Add the shredded cabbage and carrots into the bowl with the dressing. Use a spatula or large spoon to thoroughly mix until all the vegetables are evenly coated with the dressing.
Chill the Coleslaw: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the coleslaw to an airtight container. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
Serve and Enjoy: Once chilled, give the coleslaw a good stir. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Serve alongside your favorite KFC side dishes, or as a refreshing complement to your main course!
