This delightful dish combines sweet, spiced apples with a crumbly oatmeal topping to create a warm, cozy treat that’s perfect for chilly evenings.
Ingredients
Scale:
6 cups of sliced, peeled apples (about 6 medium apples, Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup rolled oats (use gluten-free oats for a gluten-free apple crisp)
1 cup all-purpose flour (or almond flour for a gluten-free alternative)
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted (or coconut oil for a vegan option)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures the crisp will bake evenly and develop a lovely golden-brown color.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Toss everything together until the apples are well coated.
Pour the apple mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom.
In another bowl, mix the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the melted butter until the mixture is crumbly and all ingredients are well combined.
Sprinkle the oatmeal dessert topping evenly over the apple filling. The topping should completely cover the apples.
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
After baking, remove the crisp from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving.
